Volunteer With AARP Driver Safety

You can make a difference in your community

En español | For more than 30 years, AARP Driver Safety has helped drivers improve their driving skills and stay safe on the road. We couldn't have done it without our volunteers.

Nationwide, some 4,000+ AARP-trained volunteers instruct, administer and promote the AARP Smart Driver Course, CarFit events and We Need to Talk seminars. AARP Driver Safety volunteers contribute to the safety and well-being of their neighbors and community.

AARP Driver Safety has many volunteer positions available.*

Ways to make a difference

  • Instructors: Organize and teach classroom courses at local community centers, libraries, hospitals and senior centers. Volunteer instructors receive training from someone in their state prior to teaching the course.
  • Coordinators: Manage the implementation and growth of AARP Smart Driver Courses in a specific zone, district, region or state. This includes recruiting and supervising instructors and classroom host locations.
  • Marketing Specialists: Locate potential classroom host sites, identify publicity or promotion opportunities, and coordinate exhibits at local and statewide events.
  • We Need to Talk Facilitators: Teach a free seminar designed to help families have conversations with their loved ones about when it’s time to cease driving.
  • CarFit Volunteers: Become a CarFit Technician or CarFit Event Coordinator and help ensure drivers are safely and comfortably fit in their vehicle, and in control behind the wheel.

Other volunteer opportunities are available to support AARP Driver Safety!
